Dear Monica

Elecel “Monica” Layese-Galozo is a Communication Arts graduate and was a radio broadcaster for 9 years. The last 5 years of her career was with ABS-CBN, the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines. The network provided her other opportunities to hone her talents in TV hosting, events hosting and scriptwriting.

Monica’s public exposure and engagement with personalities and public figures developed her self-confidence, social skills and public relations. She became more passionate of her craft and it drove her to invest in learning while exploring other opportunities. She ventured into managing talents, teaching, public speaking and entrepreneurship. To further her education, she enrolled in the MBA program and graduated in 2009. The same year, she migrated from Davao City, Philippines to Virginia Beach, VA- USA where the new chapter of her personal and professional life began.

In a work environment completely outside her strength zone, Monica struggled finding a satisfying career in the US. After 9 years of combined healthcare administration and corporate accounting experience, misery and unhappiness took a heavy toll on her. She knew, the very reason why... she did not belong to those jobs and they were not the right match for her natural gifts and talents.

She weeped before the Lord and intensely asked for wisdom. She then began soul searching and eventually, embarked on a self-development journey by reading all the books and immersing herself to various self-enhancing, motivational materials. This  reignited her passion for broadcasting by vlogging on her Facebook Page-Dear Monica.

Through the serendipitous sequence of events, she got connected with people who are locally active in the Filipino-American community. They introduced her to ABS-CBN's News Team in the US which gave her the opportunity to  become Virginia's news correspondent of ABS-CBN/The Filipino Channel’s news program Balitang America. This gig enabled her to get engaged with the Filipino-American community especially in the Hampton Roads area. As a news correspondent, Monica was given the opportunity to meet a lot of people from various organizations, especially the business sector within and outside the Filipino-American community. This is how she met her soon-to-be bosses, who offered her a position in the financial services industry. She never had even a shadow of doubt on the timing of the offer and her compatibility to the position as it perfectly matched her qualifications. And she has proven herself right.

Monica’s hunger to deploy her craft in full force was not only satisfied by joining the financial advisory team as the Manager for Events, Marketing and Client Relationship, but also by the limitless opportunities in the financial services industry.  She takes her position seriously and she aspires to pursue higher goals with the team by preparing herself to also become a licensed financial advisor.

With her  Facebook page and her recent creation of a Youtube channel, she aims to be a positive social media influencer by  building a community of Filipinos especially those living/working  abroad. Her dream is to become a catalyst for changing negative behaviors and practices endemic among Filipinos by  preserving the best of the Filipino culture while crushing belief system that prevents us from growing and reaching our best potential as a race.  Monica also aspires to empower Filipino men and women to become the best versions of themselves by encouraging them to discover their unique talents and find their personal mission, so they can make a difference in the lives of others starting with their families, friends and eventually their communities.
